Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Just Start ("we," "our," or "us") handles information when you use the Just Start app and getjuststart.app. The core timer works without an account. Optional accounts, AI features, purchases, and device integrations involve the processing described below.
Data on Your Device
The app stores focus sessions, task descriptions and generated steps you save with sessions, progress, garden state, routines, preferences, and a limited app-event history on your device. Optional session entries can include your time estimate, energy, mood, and how you felt afterward.
Optional Account and Sync
Supabase provides account authentication and cloud storage. If you choose email sign-in, your email address is used to send a sign-in link. Sign in with Apple provides an identity token and may provide an email address, including an Apple private relay address. The Apple sign-in flow also requests the name permission. An account identifier links your account records.
When you sign in, the app can upload existing and new focus history: session identifiers and times, planned and actual duration, task descriptions, saved AI first steps, completion, XP, preset names, time estimates, and optional energy, mood, and post-session feeling entries. Version 1.5.2 also uploads profile totals such as focus minutes, sessions, XP, and streaks. In version 2.0, account backup uploads focus-session history; separate device-local totals, XP, streaks, settings, saved return cues, sound scenes and garden appearance preferences are not uploaded by that backup path. Session history can be downloaded to another device signed into the same account. Garden growth can be derived from qualifying session history, but this does not synchronize every garden preference or an active timer.
If you use referral codes, Supabase stores the code and identifiers linking the referring and referred accounts.
App Events and Diagnostics
The app records events such as app opens, onboarding, session activity, feature use, purchase-flow activity, and error categories to understand use and diagnose problems. It keeps a limited local event history and counts. When signed in, events can also be sent to Supabase with your account identifier. The event service filters out properties named for task text, descriptions, messages, email addresses, and names; this is separate from the session-history sync described above, which does include task text.
AI Features
When you request an AI first step, task breakdown, or AI body-double check-in, the app sends the task description, selected language, and relevant session context through a Cloudflare Worker to Anthropic's Claude API. Context can include elapsed and planned time, the check-in type, and summaries of recent focus patterns, such as completion rate, average duration, streaks, estimation patterns, and energy ratings. These features use external providers; they are not on-device AI.
Cloudflare processes network information, including your IP address, to deliver and protect requests. Our AI service keeps operational records for rate limits, reliability, and cost accounting: a rotating hashed value derived from the IP address for usage counters, request identifiers, timestamps, feature routes, response status, token counts, and estimated cost. The usage ledger does not store task prompts or generated response text. This does not mean that provider systems have zero retention. Cloudflare and Anthropic process requests under the terms and policies applicable to their services. Avoid entering information you do not want sent to these providers.
Purchases
Apple handles App Store payments. We do not receive your full payment-card details. RevenueCat processes an app user identifier and store purchase, subscription, and entitlement information to determine access and restore purchases. Subscription management can contact RevenueCat even if you have not created a Just Start account. Account sync and purchase restoration are separate processes.
Optional Device Integrations
- Calendar: With calendar permission and the integration enabled, the app reads device calendar events to show upcoming-event reminders. This can include event titles, times, and locations. Calendar content is not included in the current session-sync or AI request payloads.
- Apple Health: On supported devices, with your permission, the app can write the start and end times of qualifying completed focus sessions as Mindful Minutes. The current integration does not read your Health records. Manage permission and saved Health entries through Apple Health and device settings.
- Music links and sharing: Saved playlist links are stored locally and opened in the music app or website you choose. If you export data or share a progress card, the selected app or recipient receives what you choose to share and handles it under its own policies.
Website and Support
The website's first-step examples and five-minute timer run in your browser. These tools do not submit a task to an AI provider or save it in a Just Start account. Cloudflare hosting processes ordinary request information, such as IP addresses and requested pages, to serve and secure the site. Some pages request fonts from Google Fonts, which receives network information needed to deliver them. Links to the App Store can include campaign labels identifying the source page and language.
If you contact support, we receive your email address and the information you include so we can respond.
Storage and Your Choices
You can use the core timer without signing in, choose whether to use AI features, and manage device permissions in your device settings. Settings includes Export Data for session history, statistics, and selected preferences, and Clear All Data to reset local app storage.
Clearing local data or removing the app does not delete a cloud account, cancel an App Store subscription, or remove information already held by service providers. Existing cloud history may be downloaded again when you sync. When signed in, use Delete Account in Settings to request deletion of your Supabase account and associated synced records, or contact support. In version 1.5.2, account deletion does not clear local copies; use the local data controls separately. In version 2.0, after remote deletion succeeds, the app signs out and clears Just Start history and preferences on the device making the request. If remote deletion cannot be confirmed, the app keeps local data and offers recovery options; a lost connection can leave the server outcome uncertain. Copies on your other devices are not cleared automatically. Account deletion does not cancel an App Store subscription. Purchase records and provider operational records are handled separately under the applicable provider terms and policies. We do not promise immediate deletion from every provider system or a single retention period for all data.
Service Providers and Data Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share information with providers for the functions described above. Their privacy information is available here:
- Supabase: authentication, synced history, profile information, referrals, and signed-in app events.
- Cloudflare: website hosting, AI request routing, and operational storage.
- Anthropic: generating AI responses from the content and context sent to its API.
- RevenueCat and Apple: purchase management and App Store services; Apple also provides optional sign-in and Health services.
- Google Fonts: delivery of website fonts.
Children's Privacy
Just Start does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The core timer can be used without creating an account. Optional account and AI features process information as described above.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy by posting the revised version on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
